Governor Bose was taught to write the first letter of the Bengali alphabet on a blackboard by nine-year-old Diyangshi Roy, a student of class 3 from a convent school in Chandannagar. Since the governor's mother tongue is Malayalam, he learned to write Bengali alphabets from three children.

The governor of West Bengal, CV Anand Bose, performed "Hatey Khari," a ritual of teaching the Bengali alphabet to children, on the occasion of Saraswathi Pooja on Thursday, in the presence of Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee and other dignitaries.
